Too many mistakenly think that Jesus wants us to pay the cost of love out of our own pockets from our own resources so our enemies can enjoy its benefits . This seems unfair until we realize that the benefits of love accrue not just to our enemies but also to us. When Jesus made the recommendation to love our enemies, Jesus was looking out for our welfare not just for the welfare of our enemies. Love is in our self-interest. We are the beneficiaries when we cling to love, hold tight and refuse to let go - when we refuse to be dislodged from the level of our loving God and reduced to the level of the most hideous and miserable of loveless beast

“The quality of mercy is not strain’d, It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest: It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.” (Portia in Shakespeare's the Merchant Of Venice Act 4, Scene 1).
