The Language Jesus Used to Answer the Question, 'Who is God?'

The Word of God did not convey the answer to the question, 'Who is God?', in the mysterious language of the Trinity. If he did so, he would have been misunderstood. We do not understand the language of the Trinity.

The Word of God did not convey the answer to the question, 'Who is God?', in the mysterious language of the angels. If he did so, he would have been misunderstood. We do not understand the language of the angels.

The Word of God took flesh (John 1:14) to reveal his identity to us unambiguously in the only universal language that survived the the great tongue-twisting of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9) - the language of suffering. The language of suffering is our native tongue. All creatures who suffer understand it. The language of suffering is a simple language. It works like this. Nobody signs up to dive headfirst or, for that matter, even dip his toe into the boiling cauldron of suffering unless they are insane or something important outweighs the high cost of suffering.  We understand that suffering is an exorbitant price we only willingly pay for something that is extremely dear to us. Jesus paid the exorbitant price because we are extremely dear to Him (Matthew 10:29-31).

The Son of God became one of us - an equal for us in our humanity - a partner with us in our suffering so we could become an equal to him in his divinity - a partner with him in his glory (Romans 8:17) (John 1:12).
