We are made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26). He endowed us with the capacity to love (Luke 17:20-21). Our hearts are vessels that can be filled to the brim with love. The greater the love that we hold in our hearts, the greater is our resemblance to God. “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.“ (John 13:35). Deification is the process of increasing our resemblance to God. Only love deifies us.
The serpent promised Adam and Eve deification without God in the Valley of Tears (Genesis 3:5). He doesn’t deliver (John 8:44). Without God in the Valley of Tears, we die (Genesis 3:3)
Adam and Eve were privileged. They only knew good. They did not know evil. God did not want them to know evil. He made them innocent. The serpent offered to Eve the full spectrum of knowledge - both the knowledge of good and the knowledge of evil. The serpent sugarcoated the knowledge of evil with the testimony that possessing the full spectrum of knowledge would deify them. Yet, the serpent failed to reveal the cost of acquiring the knowledge of evil. The rest you know.
What is the “game” that we are playing? What is the big picture? What is the context of our existence? What is the purpose of life?
Why does God let us stew in the evils of the Valley of Tears like pickles in a barrel of toxic brine?
Love deifies us. Love raises us up from the level of the most miserable and hideous of loveless beast to the level of our loving God - from the basement of the kingdom of God to the penthouse.
